Option to shutdown PC when vacuum/Analyse

Postby db998 » Thu Sep 20, 2012 9:28 am

Hi all,
May be a weird feature but as we have the opportunity to shutdown the pc when backing up sound reasonnable to have the same option when vacuuming. No ?
And this one (but i may not master enough PT4) : in PT3 when asking for a sample by session clicking on a session would open a subset with all hands ; now the subset is grouped by table. Is it me or is there another way to recreate PT3 behaviour ?
Regards,
Didier

Vacuum and Analyze should not take that long - if it only takes 5 minutes at most for normal users it doesn't seem as useful as being able to set a backup to run then walking away and knowing your computer will shut down 1-2 hours later.

Regarding the session data what you want to do is choose the Summary report on the left hand sidebar and then set grouping to by Session - then when you highlight a session at the top all hands from the session by time will be listed below.

Thanks Mr KRADA,

i don't master PT4. Have to spent some more time with menu and sub-menus.
In Summary/session is exactly what i'm looking for.
Thanks again.

Hi Gentlemen,

i ran a vacuum analyse recently and this took 45mn.
My DB is 600KH and i face performance issues with most reports in PT4.
would this be linked and mean the PG DB is corrupted in some way ?
Replayer crashes my PC also ; on this issue i have a ticket going on with Mike ; i mention just in case...
By the way, i read somewhere in the forum that using nestloop=off could boost performance ; i've seen no change except that hud would not come up in regular plays ; as soon as i revert the line in pg.conf hud was back.
I'm not sure this is of paramount importance....
Have a good day.

You should NOT make the nestloop=off change - we have mentioned this to our database guru and we're looking into whether something of this type could be used for some queries, but disabling this will prevent some queries working properly.
