Reviewing a session

Postby Jafeeio » Sun Jul 29, 2012 4:14 pm

I haven't been able to figure out where I can filter for a specific session, like in HEM.

[ img ]

I make extensive use of this feature, it allows me to quickly filter all tabs for that session. This includes looking at positional stats, looking at my performance by stake, reviewing big hands quickly (with a little work the "hands for session" window should be okay for that) and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, look at a graph for the session which includes all in ev and showdown lines to gauge if my play deteriorated sometime in the session.

I realize I can do it the hard way by putting in a date into the filters, but the way your program is structured it for one removes all the sessions from the view when I try to select a date and has to load all sessions again when I switch back (HEM keeps them preloaded in the session tab while I do my review in the reports tab) and it doesn't carry over my date selection to the Graphs tab. Obviously when I play more than one session in a day or my session starts late in the day and carries over to the next it's not applicable.

I understand that you probably don't want to clone HEM but usability is one of the most important factors in deciding which program to use for me and PT4 is lacking in this aspect compared to HEM. IMHO you are trying to cram too many things into a single tab and it is hard to understand which selection overrides which. But enough of that ;)

Thanks,

We don't yet have a way to filter to an individual session but I will remind the development team about this request.

In the meantime there is a slightly long-winded way to achieve this. You can view the session you're interested in and select all of the hands (ctrl-A) and right-click > Tag the hands, then use a filter to that tag (More Filters > Hand Details > Hand is Tagged As). Remember to clear the tags again afterwards. You could set up a separate tag for this if you want to use it (Configure > Tags).

Just to add to this the option of all new hands importing to be automaticaly tagged as "New Session" then this will take care of that part.

Could even have this option in the Import section to automatically turn tag on or off and then all quick filters would only use those sessions hands with the tages of "New Session" to display stats.

Also have an option to automatically and quickly Untag all "New Session" hands, for new session / day.

Automatically have tags only last for players 24 hours period and then automatically removed.

Would there be a performance problem of tagging during import?

Thanks,

I will try that :)

Unfortunately I already see a problem arising with this method. While you can set multiple tags for a hand, you can only mass-remove all tags at the same time. So if I go ahead and mark a bunch of hands as bad hands for later review and mark them for my session review, I would lose the bad hand tag after removing all the session-tags.

But thanks for working on a solution, looking forward to it

Yes, unfortunately there is that drawback to my method. In that case you would need to remove the 'session' tag from those individual hands with other tags first, then bulk-remove it from the other hands which only have that one tag.

However, the good news is that the development team have asked me to set up a feature request for this type of filter - I don't know when this option will be implemented, but it is on the list! :)
