PT3 screwed up my PT2

OK so i have been using PTv2 for years. Today i d/l PT3 and install. I use it to install postresql 8.3 (had 8.2 previously installed). I mess around with PT3 for abit. I decide i want to move my hands from PT2 to PT3. So i delete PT3 with the aim of launching PT2, exporting all my hands to .txt, then starting fresh in PT3.

The issue is, once i tried to get back into PT2, the program just stalls on the opening screen. It appears as though it cant connect to the postresql. I think installing 8.3 and PT3 has screwed up my PT2 settings.

All i need to do is access PT2 once to export my hands and then i will be fine.

Any suggestions?

Make sure the server is running. Click on start -> programs -> postgresql -> start service. If this doesn't help, remove password requirements by follow the info in the link below:

Before you installed PT3, were you using PostgreSQL with PT3 or just the default Access database?

These 2 programs should never really affect each other at all so there must be something else causing this.

I was using sql with pt2, before i had installed pt3.

Starting the service as explained above didn't help.

When i try to edit the file for removing password reliance i get an error message saying the file can't be written to because the path is wrong. I have checked and the path is correct, and the file exists. I am really confused.

Can i delete PT2 and postresql, start from scratch, get into PT2, export my hands and then begin with PT3?

Any help appreciated.

Go to the Start menu and select Programs > PostgreSQL 8.2 > pgAdmin III

On the window that opens, right-click on the red X at the top left part of the window and select "Connect".

Enter your password when prompted.

What happens? Does it connect? Do you see a list of database listed there? If so, what are the names of these databases?

Once i do that that window basically freezes up, the same way PT2 does when i try to load it now. Please note that i had the open of 8.2 and 8.3 now because PT3 installed 8.3. Mabye thats the source of the problem?

Go to the Start > Settings > Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services window.

On this window, do you see an entry for both PostgreSQL 8.2 AND 8.3?

If you see the 8.3 entry, right-click on it and select "Stop" from the menu.

Then try to open the pgAdmin window again.

8.3 was in the services window. I stopped it. Got the same problem in pgadmin though. Just freezes up.

Try uninstalling PostgreSQL 8.3

Before you do this, to be safe, backup the entire c:\program files\postgresql\8.2\data folder. ZIP the folder (and all it's sub-folders and put that file in a safe place).

Also, in the c:\program files\postgresql\8.2\data folder, if there is a file called postmaster.pid there, delete it.

Now, use the Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs window to remove PostgreSQL 8.3

Now restart the computer and try it again.
